Buying shoes online is becoming more and more popular and of course there are several reasons. Firstly, the selection is much larger online than in a shoe store. Second, the prices are usually much better online than in store. However, there is a downside. Children's feet are growing all the time and it is therefore impossible to know what shoe size they currently have. Luckily, there is an easy way to measure your child's feet and that's exactly what we're going to go over today!
Draw the foot
The very best way to get a good measurement of your child's feet is to draw them. Ask your child to put a foot on a piece of paper. Then you can easily follow the outside of the foot with a pencil. You can then use a tape measure or a ruler to measure the foot. We recommend that you always draw both feet as they are not always exactly the same size. When ordering shoes, you should order based on the largest foot.
Different sizes depending on brand
It can sometimes feel like your child suddenly jumps up three sizes overnight. This may actually be true but it does not necessarily mean that the child's foot has grown. Which size the child has can change depending on the brand of the shoe. Different companies simply make different size shoes but they use the same size. This means that two shoes in size 27 can be different sizes. That's why it's important to always measure your child's feet before ordering shoes, even if you think you know exactly what size he/she should be.
Different measurements depending on the type of shoe
Once you have measured the child's foot and are about to order a pair of shoes, you will notice that there are rarely shoes with the exact same measurements as your child's foot. Never take a shoe that is a little too small, it will be uncomfortable right away. Better to take one that is a little too big, then the child has something to grow in. If you order summer shoes or sandals, you can add about 0.7 centimeters to the shoe without it being too big. If it's winter shoes or boots, you can add as much as 1.5 centimeters without problems.
Remember that it is always the inner measurement of the shoe that you are interested in, not the outer measurement. It's a simple mistake that pays off when the shoe arrives.
How often should you measure?
It is not easy to know when the children need new shoes. Often they don't tell you when the old ones have gotten too small, but just start pulling their toes together. You should always measure before each season to see if the child can keep his old shoes or needs a new pair. Otherwise, the recommendation is to measure approximately once every 4 months.
It's not easy to find the right size for your child, but we really hope this guide has helped you along the way. Hope you find a pair of really nice shoes for your child!
