The big advantage of EVA material is that it is more flexible than rubber. Rubber can harden when it dries, when it gets too cold or when it gets old. That's why it cracks. EVA material, unlike rubber, is flexible and will not harden in the same way. This means that it copes with both sunlight, cold and age much better.
Another advantage of EVA material is that you do not have to take care of it in the same way as you have to with rubber. To make your wellies last as long as possible, it is recommended that you wash them, use a conditioner/silicone and polish them. Of course, it doesn't hurt to do it with boots from Wobbi, but it's not necessary for the boot to live longer.
Why is rubber still used?
EVA material is both cheaper and better than most rubber compounds. So why is rubber still used in many popular boots? The simple answer is that customers don't know any better and are used to buying rubber boots. As long as customers are happy with rubber, companies will continue to sell rubber boots. It is only when they force development that development will take place. Developing new products and phasing out old ones is expensive so why do it prematurely?
